Well I wish I could shed light on the progress of this matter but … like the lamp post, I can’t.

A Sporting Rage
Why oh why do a lot of football commentators say that a player has ‘missed’ a penalty when it was going between the posts and the keeper ‘saves’ the ball? It was on target and it was saved! If the player had skied it or slewed it anywhere outside the rectangle formed by the three bits of wood and the ground then that’s a missed penalty but when it’s on target and caught/parried by the keeper then it’s a saved penalty. Give the keeper credit where it is due and don’t down the penalty kicker by saying he missed … after all he’s probably feeling awful because the shot was saved!

The Lamp Post and the Water Tap (XVI)
Woah there Mrs Resident, no need to cross the road with the pushchair now because the pavement on your side of the street has been fully finished!
Yes, what was becoming unthinkable after all this time has been completed. On the 11th week the workmen came, filled in and tarred the hole in the pavement at 9:00am this Sunday morning. Naturally, the lamp post is not lit but it’s still progress … of sorts.

The Lamp Post and the Water Tap (XV)
And so we have reached double figures ... 10 weeks since the street plumbing went phut (or maybe sloosh is a better description) and as an indirect result the light went out, and although the water is fine and flowing where it should (and was the same day) the lamp post is still not lit and the hole is still not completely filled. What a wonderful council and utility company we have!
Maybe if we behave like good little residents and write nice letters to Santa he'll have it fixed for Christmas? Nah! Don't be silly.

The Lamp Post and the Water Tap (XIV)
As the roman numerals head towards the tricky stage the roman candles and various other entertaining explosives have been lighting up the night sky, which is more than the lamp post is doing. The hole, of course, is still there. So ... nine weeks and still counting but the numbers will be more traditional (arabic ?) next week!

It’s Hell When the Neighbours ROAR …
I have (belatedly) discovered a mention of ROAR in the Neighbour From Hell website dated 02 September 2006.
The comment from a resident of Wrea Green is particularly strange, verging on the amusing.

The Lamp Post and the Water Tap (XIII)
I was in Edinburgh over the weekend and when I came back guess what? Still no lamp post with a light and still no pavement without a hole!
So that’s eight weeks as at Sunday 29th October … and counting.

A Damp Squib …
For the past few years Lytham Round Table have advertised with a sequence of four big square signs in succession on various roadsides around Lytham and St.Annes, their annual Fireworks display. All very appropriate and noble etcetera.
They read …
Lytham Round Table
Fireworks Display
November 5th
Fylde Rugby Club
But why do they never tell you WHAT TIME THE BLOODY THING STARTS!!!
I have just managed to glean from the local rag that it kicks off at 5:30pm with a funfair and the display begins at 7:30pm. So why don’t the business people that populate the Round Table use their collective business brains and tell people/customers the information they need to get there for what they want to do or see! Good grief … if you’re going to advertise do it properly!
