Management and Consultant Speak
The first in an occasional entry ... but I suspect will become frequent!
Minuted from a Government Departmental Regional Management meeting held to discuss arrangements for an exercise to identify staff who may be surplus to requirements and what happens next:
"The first part of this process will be a consuming your own smoke scenario that will minimise disruption to the ... businesses."
Basically this means that any staff made surplus must be redeployed within your own business before looking elsewhere in the department for jobs for them.
Ye Gods and little fishes! Why couldn't they just say that! What was gained from the 'consuming your own smoke scenario' nonsense?

Aaaargh! Unbeliveable! Except, very much in line with my experience. We must fight against these abuses, Fanque!
A university I know (no, not that one) has decided to refer to students as customers...

Not too unlike my Department who a few year ago called the punters 'claimants', then changed the terminolgy to 'clients', and then finally changed it again to 'customers'!
Those of us with long service who frequent the departmental intranet discussion groups/message boards refer to them as 'clustomants' ... lovingly of course.
