And Management wonder why we have no confidence in them!

The story reported on the BBC news site today about the new £140 million benefits computer system being axed would have come as a shock to the majority of people. Sadly, that majority of people work in the Department and they were mighty miffed to read the news via the BBC and not hear it from their employer … in any fashion. Myself and my fellow system testers were aware of the system shutting down because some of our colleagues who had moved over to work on what was a new project a couple of years ago returned to our testing area about eight weeks ago and we were officially advised of a change in management and the shelving of BPRM.

The main reason the thousands of front line staff are upset is because of the annual staff survey which always has questions like:

Do you think management keep you informed of change?
Do you trust the management?

And of course when the results are announced months later we are informed that percentage satisfaction with management isn’t great but has improved and they will do better … honest! So to hear this news via the BBC before a cheep coming from anyone in HQ is beyond belief, but sadly very typical nowadays.

  • An email today about a meeting on pay and conditions: "today's meeting has been cancelled due to staff availability"...

  • Ha! Nice.

I remember an innocent mistake spotted on a Sports and Social Notice at my old office in Edinburgh which stated "The Annual AGM will be held ..."
